Position Summary

The Senior Estimator is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the analysis and breakdown of complex client packages and plans, coordinating with subcontractors, and ensuring the delivery of precise and competitive tenders. This position demands a highly skilled professional with extensive experience in estimations, advanced construction industry knowledge, and the ability to mentor, lead and show by example junior team members while collaborating with Project Managers to drive project success. The role requires exceptional analytical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, and excellent communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the review and interpretation of complex packages and plans from clients, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project goals.
  • Deconstruct packages into specialized sub-packages (e.g., electrical, plumbing, floor covering, painting, joinery, glazing, mechanical) with a focus on optimizing cost and efficiency.
  • Manage the distribution of sub-packages to 2-3 subcontractors per category, overseeing the tender process end-to-end.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for subcontractor inquiries during the tender phase, providing expert guidance and resolving complex issues.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and cross-checks of subcontractor tenders, ensuring compliance with scope, quality standards, and budgetary constraints.
  • Consolidate finalized packages and tenders, presenting comprehensive recommendations to Project Managers for client submission.
  • Mentor and guide junior estimators, fostering skill development and ensuring team alignment with company standards.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and senior leadership to refine estimation processes and enhance tender competitiveness.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 4 years in estimating or quantity surveying, with at least 1 year in a senior or supervisory capacity.
    • Extensive experience reading and interpreting detailed construction plans.
    • Proven track record of breaking down tenders into sub-packages and managing subcontractor relationships.
    • Deep expertise in the construction or building industry, with a strong focus on costing and budget optimization.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); familiarity with estimation software is a plus.
    • Exceptional mathematical and analytical skills for complex calculations and cost forecasting.
  • Communication: Superior written and verbal English skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
